At the Advanced Test Reactor, during an outage, operations personnel completed discharging experiments from the reactor to the canal for storage. Upon completion of the days work an operator was sleeving tools for storage. While backing up on the canal parapet the operator fell off the platform. The section of the parapet the operator was working on necks down to half of the platform cross section. At this location the platform did not have a guardrail installed and ends abruptly. The operator fell approximately 36" below, resulting in a fracture and ligament tears to their right knee.
