Over the last year, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) has noticed an uptick in minor events where objects have been contacted both behind and in front of slowly moving work vehicles. In an effort to mitigate these events, brainstorming sessions were held to discuss possible solutions. These sessions resulted in the idea that orange traffic safety cones could serve both to improve visibility and safety of work vehicles, and they afford the opportunity to implement the Circle of Safety prior to entering and leaving the work site.

In a related video, you can watch motor vehicle accident prevention expert Ed Sierra (BNL) introduce the "Circle of Safety" i.e., walking around a vehicle to check for safety concerns before driving. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5o9yElNhji4&feature=youtu.be
