CHPRC conducted a field test using membrane equipped filters to evaluate whether this would reduce the intrusion of moisture into the interior of stored drums. The test was performed to evaluate if use of membrane equipped filters would reduce the corrosion rate of drums in long term above ground storage.

Lesson Learned: The test results confirmed that the drums breathe or aspirate over time and that the internal atmosphere of vented drums tends to follow the ambient conditions. However, use of a membrane equipped filter did not reduce the intrusion of moisture into the stored drums.
