An energized 480 volt cable with an exposed electrical conductor was discovered by an employee who was working nearby. The above ground exterior type "W" cable supplied electrical power to groundwater well equipment in the 100D Area of the Hanford Site. Animal damage, "gnawing on the cable", resulted in removal of a portion of the cable insulation, and exposed the energized electrical conductor.
Electrical power cable runs occur across the Hanford Site. Sagebrush and wild lands vegetation can obscure installed electrical components that may present a hazard if damaged by wildlife or off road equipment use.
