A MSA Constant Flow Duo-Twin supplied air respirator air-line hose became disconnected while the worker was performing preventative maintenance activities. The worker exited the work area under use of the air purifying respirator mode. The worker, who is responsible for checking the connection for tightness prior to each use, did not inspected the connection. Although the workers pre-use inspection of respiratory equipment provides the final and most important line of defense, the use of a thread compound at threaded connections may provide an additional insurance that connections remain secure during use.
