On September 22, 2015, unexpected Alpha and Beryllium contamination was found on a scissor lift during a preventative maintenance inspection. Debris found on the unit was uncharacteristic of work performed in the area of use. The lift, acquired from Rocky Flats several years ago, had been in regular use since its acquisition in radiological and industrial hygiene controlled areas. The response to the discovery of unexpected contaminants was appropriate however, considering the equipments history of use, greater attention should have been paid when the equipment was first acquired.
Lessons Learned: Equipment obtained from other DOE sites should be thoroughly inspected for potential contamination, including asbestos contamination, prior to use.
