Every year, workers are killed or seriously injured while performing snow or ice removal from rooftops and other building structures, such as decks. OSHA has investigated 16 such serious injuries or fatalities in the past 10 years - all of which could have been prevented.

Under the OSH Acts general duty clause, employers have a duty to protect workers from recognized serious hazards in the workplace, including hazards associated with snow removal from roofs. This hazard alert describes the steps you can take to prevent injuries and deaths from these hazards.
