An abandoned communication line was struck with a backhoe bucket during pad preparation. Due to manpower limitations, the excavation was being conducted during the backshift when specific personnel assigned to the activity were available. The abandoned conduit was struck while the backhoe was being used to remove blacktop and soil from the area. The next day an electrical conduit was uncovered when continuing the excavation. Although the conduit was not damaged, work in the area was immediately suspended pending further investigation.
