Work packages that require protection from hazardous energy must be treated differently than standard work packages in order to ensure workers understand the hazards involved and their responsibility for lockout/tagout (LOTO). When hazardous energy work packages are treated like other bulk installation packages, workers can fail to understand and recognize the need to enter the LOTO process.
