Prejob test and preparation for key equipment in a work activity is necessary to prevent an unanticipated condition. Workers were using a peristaltic pump to transfer liquid into a new drum. After pumping for few minutes, the workers indicated that smoke was being emitted from the vicinity of the pump and drum opening.
